On Easter Sunday, the Hanover Terrace Community Support Group gathered (at a suitable distance from each other!) outside the house of Connie, a very special isolating resident. We were there to sing Happy Birthday and help celebrate a 90th birthday.
Connie has lived in her current house for an incredible 80 years and was born in a block of flats nearby.
Children and adults presented cards and gifts and everyone clapped and cheered an amazing ninety-year old. The ‘birthday girl’ responded graciously to our singing efforts and thanked us all – there were smiles all round!
Connie’s neighbour, Jan Davies said: “Connie said she’d had a wonderful birthday – possibly better than going to an expensive hotel which had been the plan. So we helped to make her day good!”
Residents Sarah Burton and her partner Justin also helped Connie set up a Zoom call so that Connie could speak to her relatives.
It must have given everyone a boost to come together and realise what a fantastic community we have! A big street party has been suggested once this virus has been beaten and it is safe to meet our friends and neighbours again. What a fantastic way that will be to mark a new era and finally to be able to give those birthday hugs we were unable to deliver on the day!
